We live in a world starving for hope, and the church doesn’t feel like a mighty army. But God is stirring. He’s not looking for spectators; He’s recruiting fire-starters – ordinary people with extraordinary assignments. Revival doesn’t begin with a crowd; it begins with someone who dares to say "Yes" to God. Today, we discover how to find that burning purpose within you and take action that sets the dry wood of this generation ablaze for Christ!
Revival begins when everyday people allow the fire of God to burn through obedience. Too many Christians don’t know their calling. Or worse, they know it, but do nothing. Each of us has a God-given purpose, a specific role in His plan to spread His love.
Today, I’m going to talk to you about how to find your God-given calling and how to take bold, practical steps to fuel and lignite revival.
Your Calling Starts with a Holy Disruption, often interrupting your ordinary life. It’s that holy dissatisfaction, that explainable burden for a specific need.
God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.
Your past, your age, your perceived inadequacies are irrelevant to His power. Your calling begins when God disrupts your comfort zone with a glimpse of His burden and plan.
Discovering Your Calling It’s not just for pastors or missionaries—it’s for every believer. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” God created you with a purpose, and He’s already planned good works for you to walk in!
When we trust God and submit to His will, He'll guide us towards our calling.
Your calling might be found in your passions, your skills, or your experiences. "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work... But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be... As it is, there are many parts, but one body" (1 Corinthians 12:4-6, 18, 20). It's our duty to use those gifts for His glory.
Maybe you love teaching—could God be calling you to teach in church? Maybe you’re great at organising—could you serve your church by planning outreach events?
Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Don’t compare your calling to others. Your role in revival might look different, but it’s just as important.
Are you an Encourager, a Giver, an Administrator, a Helper?
Your calling isn’t just what you do; it’s how you reflect Christ through what you do. Stop waiting for a neon sign! Look at how God made you and the needs He places before you. That’s your starting point. Revival happens when we put those gifts to use,
1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” Your gifts are tools for revival.
You have something only you can do for the kingdom. Don’t underestimate the power of your obedience.
Your Calling Often Comes From Your Burden
Nehemiah saw Jerusalem’s walls in ruins, and he wept. That pain led to his purpose. That purpose sparked revival in a nation.
Nehemiah 1:4 “When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and prayed before the God of heaven.
Ask yourself: What do I see that I just can’t ignore anymore? That might just be your calling knocking on the door.
Revival is not just a possibility; it's a necessity. In 2 Corinthians 5:20, Paul writes, "We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." We're called to be ambassadors of Christ, to share the Gospel, and to make disciples.
Fear and doubt can paralyse us, preventing us from taking action. In 2 Timothy 1:7, Paul reminds us, "For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and of love and of self-control." When we're empowered by the Holy Spirit, we can overcome fear and doubt.
Start Now - So many people delay their calling, waiting for a “sign” or for things to be perfect. But calling isn’t about comfort or convenience—it’s about courage.
Jeremiah 1:6–7 (NIV) tells us: “‘Alas, Sovereign Lord,’ I said, ‘I do not know how to speak; I am too young.’ But the Lord said to me, ‘Do not say, “I am too young.” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.’”
Stop waiting until you have more time.
Stop waiting until everything makes sense.
Start where you are. Use what you have. Obey what He said. The rest will follow.
Jesus told a parable about a master giving talents (money) to servants. Two invested theirs. "But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money... His master replied, 'You wicked, lazy servant!... You should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest" (Matthew 25:18, 26-27). The servant wasn’t evil; he was inactive. He let fear paralyse him.
Delay is disobedience in disguise. We bury our "talent" – our calling, waiting for the "perfect" moment, more courage, or clearer instructions. Meanwhile, people perish without hope. God’s command isn’t "Feel confident, then go"; it’s "Go, and I will make you confident."
Obedience Sparks Revival. Once you sense your calling, it’s time to act. Knowing your purpose is only half the battle—revival comes when we move. James 2:17 says, “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” God calls us to step out in faith, even when we feel unprepared.
When we obey God’s call, we become sparks that ignite His Spirit’s fire. Discovering your calling is just the first step. Taking action is what brings revival.
"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14). Her calling wasn't her choice; it was recognised in a crisis.
The body of Christ needs teachers, leaders, encouragers, builders, healers, organisers, creators, intercessors, and witnesses. Revival needs everyone, because it spreads faster when the whole church is moving, not just the pulpit.
Imagine what God could do through you—your workplace, your neighbourhood, your family—if you step fully into your calling. Don’t let another day pass by, doing nothing with your calling.
Revival Spreads Through Unity Revival is not just about individual action; it's about collective impact.
Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” Your calling is meant to connect with others’ callings, creating a powerful movement of God’s Spirit.
Get involved in your church. Join a small group, serve on a team, or pray with others. Encourage those around you to step into their callings too. When we work together, our efforts multiply. Imagine a church where everyone is living out their God-given purpose—teaching, serving, praying, loving. That’s a church ready for revival!
Think of the early church, in Acts 2:46-47: “Every day they continued to meet together… praising God and enjoying the favour of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Their unity and shared purpose sparked a revival that changed the world. Let’s build that kind of community today. Invite someone new (to church, or your home, for coffee). Create belonging. Start small, but start now. One act of obedience, fueled by faith, is a spark that can ignite a blaze.
Sustained revival action flows from sustained intimacy with Christ. This isn't just "quiet time"; it's a moment-by-moment awareness of His presence, dependence on His strength, and alignment with His will.
"Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:4-5).
Consistent prayer, soaking in Scripture and worship that refocuses your heart. "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2). Surrender your time, energy, resources – your whole life – daily to Him.
The fields are ripe for harvest (John 4:35), but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37). God isn't waiting for superstars; He’s waiting for surrendered servants. He’s waiting for you to recognise the holy disruption in your life, embrace your unique design in His body, slay the giants of fear and delay, take faith-filled action right where you are, and stay plugged into His power.
Living out your calling isn’t always easy. There will be obstacles—doubt, distractions, or opposition. But revival requires perseverance. Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Don’t quit when it gets hard.
God sees your faithfulness. Revival often starts small, like a mustard seed, before it grows into something mighty. Every calling comes with resistance. Every purpose comes with a process.
Joseph had a dream at 17, but he had to go through betrayal, slavery, and prison before he saw the dream fulfilled.
Don’t let trials talk you out of your calling. The opposition is proof that your assignment is important. The difficulties bring Growth and endurance. Taking action to bring revival is not just a suggestion; it's a command. Are you walking in it—or running from it? If you want God to move, you need to move. Act in faith, don’t wait for a title, a platform, or a feeling. Don’t bury your talent in the ground of fear or apathy. The time is now. The person God is calling is you.
God’s not asking, “Are you qualified?” He’s asking, “Will you obey?”
Revival starts when you say:
“Lord, show me my calling. Give me boldness to walk in it. Use me to bring revival.”
You are not too small, too young, or too broken—God has a plan for you to spark revival.
Today.
Let’s hold fast to Isaiah 6:8: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” Say yes to God’s call, and watch Him use you to bring revival.
Choose specific, actionable steps this week that use your gifts to address the burden you’ve identified. Set aside daily time to pray for revival, and reading Scripture. Fuel the fire!
Don’t leave this message with a good feeling. Leave with a decision. And write a plan to carry it out.
